Fort Nelson is a polygonal fort on the Hampshire coast, built overlooking the coastal town of Portsmouth and its important naval base. It was built during the 1860s to help defend against potential attacks on Portsmouth dockyard. In 1995 it became part of the Royal Armouries and is now home to the Armouries’ collection of artillery, housing everything from Tudor cannons to Gulf War-era “superguns”.
